This story is too full of LULZ not to share. So dig, if you will.
Today was a pretty okay day at work. We got a rather Debbie Downer email from the Binch (AKA Bitch/Grinch AKA our director) about budget and next week's board meeting. Someone is getting cut, thankfully, it's not me, so I have nothing to worry about, but still the principal of it all was pretty shitty. But....my friends, but....we had a potluck to celebrate a co-workers birthday so today was WIN by default.
I know. Tawn, GET ON WITH IT.
One of the gals, H, from 14/Benefits came in asking about our training room and if it would be free on the 17th. R and I opened up the calendar and broke the news to H that no, the training room would be booked all week. New Employee Orientation on Monday-Wednesday, a Workers Comp meeting on Thursday, and CPR training on Friday. H was pretty devastated. She said that she was putting together a baby shower and needed a room. The 14th floor conference room was booked by the Civil Service Commission (4 years of working at this joint and I still don't get the just of that "commission", wtf). She even went so far as to say "What am I going to do?!?!?! I'm almost to the point where we have to have it in the lobby!"
First, these betches have a BREAK ROOM. HAVE IT THERE. Shit, my office doesn't have a break room. When we have potlucks and shit do you know where we set up? In the back of the office. We put shit on top of the printer. Seriously. We accommodate.
Naturally, inquiring minds want to know I ask who's having a baby. Turns out it's one of the guys in Benefits, his wife is pregnant (their first). She was obviously pretty excited about her shower, so she went on to tell us that it's Star Wars themed. I thought in my mind "Awwwwww, a nerd in the making". She went on to tell us that the invitations were ~*~*~ AdOrAblEEE~**~*~*~* and here, friends, were her next exact words:
H: "Oh, I'll have to send you the invitation so you can see it!!! BUT DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO COME OR ANYTHING.
: O
R, right next to me, immediately started to crack up. H and I exchanged some other words and she left. As soon as she was out of the lobby R looked at me and literally yelled "IS SHE SERIOUS? DID SHE JUST SAY THAT? OH. DON'T FEEL OBLIGATED TO COME OR ANYTHING BECAUSE YOU WEREN'T INVITED IN THE FIRST PLACE"
OMG. I about died. We both were on the floor DYING. My boss eventually came out to see what the hell we were laughing at and wanted to know why he wasn't laughing either. I told him the story and he was just.....standing there in the doorway to his office with his head hanging and shaking back and forth. He said "First......she just shouldn't have said anything about a shower. Second....if I'm a dude? And my wife is having a baby? DON'T BE THROWING ME A PICKIN' BABY SHOWER"
That was pretty much the hot topic of the afternoon. Everyone in the office got a mighty hearty laugh. Really....who does that? I'm not really surprised, she's kind of dingy. Either way, I wouldn't go because I really don't know the guy well enough to actually show up bring a gift. We have a weird relationship with the 14th floor (well, besides my situation, lol). We know them. We might meet up in the elevator or what have you. We rarely go down there, and they rarely come up to our floor (except when they really need something, as shown). That's why I kind of don't like potlucks- everyone ends up sitting with their clique/floor anyways. But there's no tension or anything, we all generally get along. But we're not BFF's or anything (if I had to think about it we [when I say "we" I mean my office] genuinely like 2 people at the most on 14- honestly).
Then again. It's just work. But sometimes you have to laugh at some things ;)
.....now, time to wash this face mask off. I had a serious hormone explosion this past week D:

| Tawn Goes To The Movies. |

On this past cold, Friday night at 11:30 pm, I went to see This Is It. I was excited. I'm still excited even after watching it. I rarely go to the movies (very. very rarely), so I really enjoyed going this time. I'm going to share my comments on the film, but, before that- here are my comments on the trailers on new movies coming out. Just....because I can.
New Moon OH MY GOD. I'M SORRY I JUST DON'T GET IT. Okay. Maaaaaybe it's because I haven't read the books or seen the first movie. Maaaaaaaybe it's because my mom is also batshitcrazy into it and that's kinda weird. I don't know. I just can't get into it and I'm glad I'm not into it.
The Princess and the Frog: So freakin' excited for this! I've been reading articles on this and that about the film, and seriously, why do people have to nit-pick it? Ugh, I won't even get into it. I'm excited for many reasons like it's the first African-American Princess in the Disney family. I find that to be a big deal, personally. But, whatever. AND it's made in the traditional, old-school animation style. You can even tell that the style looks like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast or Aladdin- THAT my friends, is going to be bad ass. Same goes for the music- sounds very promising and has flavors of the old-school classics I just mentioned. And speaking of which.......just looking at the poster......doesn't it remind you of Mermaid?
Avatar: Ummm.......huh? I admit I'm not a big sci-fi fan. This didn't call out to me at all. And, I thought the trailer was too long and confusing (which may have been the point- I don't know).
Did You Hear About The Morgans?: Another bag comedy with Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker. I don't really mind these two, honestly. But couldn't they have picked better scripts? It's also one of those movies where they showed basically the whole story in the trailer (but you can obviously tell what the ending is), and probably all the funny bits. Basically the two are married, and hate one other (OMG!! SO FUNNY@#$@!!!). They witness a murder and are put into the witness relocation program and sent to South Daoka or one of those other square states, I don't remember. There they have to "rough it" in the country and try to put that good ol' spark into their marriage. Blaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh.
2012: I'm going to be honest. I don't like movies where the world is going to end. It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The only thing I do like, however, is the song "Time For Miracles" from Adam Lambert. I love that fairy.
I think there were one or two more previews. But I honestly can't remember.
Now to talk about This Is It. It wasn't what I expected it to be. But, then again it was everything I expected it to be. It's not entirely a documentary, and it's not entirely a concert film. It's a hybrid of both. To be more specific, probably about 90% concert and 10% documentary. They spoke with the dancers, the costume designers, the band, the set designers. It was thoughtful insight into how the concerts were going to be crafted. There were already a lot of things set up on stage, but there were many, many things that were only available in sketches and computer designs.
For the first half-hour, my mouth was just hanging open. It was too much taking in the music and seeing Michael Jackson on the screen. Honestly, you wouldn't be able to tell he would die two months later (footage was recorded from April-June). He was dancing great. He was singing great. He truly is and was a genius. And it's true what you read, he was a perfectionist. He was very personal and hands on. And, you can tell he had a lot of love in his heart for what he does. He is also very funny. There is a part where he's on a "cherry picker" crane that would go out into the crowd during Beat It (if you've ever seen the "Live In Bucharest" dvd, it's similar to that). He was wanting to move around on it and whomever was on the bottom was telling him "Can you please just hold on!? Just for safety!!!" and Michael looks down and says ".....okay" like a little kid :) They start moving him around and he simply waves says "Hi" to someone on the floor. It was so funny- everyone in the theater laughed.
If he would have lived, and if these concerts would have happened- it simply would have been the most spectacular concerts in rock/pop history. Guaranteed. It was just amazing what he was going to be doing on stage and how he worked with the songs to make them appear even more fresh, yet timeless. There was a lot of incorporation with the dancers and the set into the songs.
There was a lot of filming these mini-movies for the concerts, that would be shown prior, during or after the songs. The best was probably for "Smooth Criminal". They inserted Michael into Rita Hayworth's "Put The Blame On Mame" scene in Gilda. And, if it wasn't possible, "Thriller" was made BETTER. BETTER, DAMNIT. BETTER. They filmed another zombie/graveyard scene and it just looked awesome. Frickin' awesome. OH. Plus, these movies were meant to be 3D where the audience would be given special glasses. Shit. Seriously. Amazing. "Earth Song" was pretty moving. If you've seen the original music video, it's very similar. They had a little girl in a forest and a bulldozer running over the trees. The very end of the song was to have a huge bulldozer come out on stage and close over Michael (that was one of those computer graphic designs they inserted in- but they discussed how to leave it open and close over him in silence). Then there's the Jackson 5 medley that made me cry when he sang "I'll Be There". What can I say. I'm a sap.
If you like Michael Jackson, if you've been touched by his music (as I have), you need to see this. I think I read somewhere that they've extended showing it until Thanksgiving. Oh, and if you do, stay through the credits!! There are a few "extras" at the end I had read about. They made me cry. I'll leave it at that.
ps; Halloween was pretty quiet last night. I didn't get home until almost 2:30 in the morning from the movies- plus I had to be up a few hours later to get ready for the Band Festival parade downtown. I met up again with my cousin Alex and her grandma and went to the parade. We didn't stay for the whole thing, either. We were so hungry, like, starving, lol. We had breakfast and then went to a few 98 cent stores (because that's what we love to do. She buys bundles of fake lashes and I buy cheap nail polish. We both laugh at cheesy ceramic dolls/figurines) and K Mart. I was just so tired....I didn't feel like going anywhere. So, I didn't. My other cousin came over with my goddaughter to show her off in her costume (she was Cinderella), and then I went to see my dad for a bit ,then came back home. I still "dresed up", though. I slapped on a black cotton/jersey dress I had in my closet, black tights and gray flats and some pink+black cat ears. Meow! Instant costume! I put out the pumpkin and just handed out candy all night. I was perfectly fine with that.

Time to reveal this year's pumpkin!!!!!!!!!!
*drumroll*
THRILLER PUMPKIN!!!!!!
I thought it was going to be easier, it was actually a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I almost lost it a few times, it was getting pretty close around the eyes. I had my pumpkin since last week, but I've been so busy I didn't have the time to cut it. Last night I finally got to it. I didn't know what kind of pattern I was going to do, so I looked around online and actually found 3 MJ patterns (for free!!!), this one was what I thought to be the "easiest". I didn't think much of it when I was finished, but when I put the candle in....oh yeah, I loved it.
And just in case you can't see it....
 See. Totally the same.
And I know what else you're probably thinking.....why the hell aren't I at work? Well, I'm feeling rather under the weather today. Of course. On Halloween. Ughhhhh. I went into work but came home at 9:30. I took some medicine and I already feel a little bit better, so there's hope to feeling tip-top tomorrow morning.
It's going to be a pretty somber Halloween this year, actually. My dumb ass department is NOT having the big Halloween potluck. For reasons why I don't even want to get into, but it's really stupid. We can dress up, but you know what, I'm not going to give them the satisfaction. Because my costume knock people out every year. I know, I sound big-headed, but it's true. Everyone was asking me what I was going to be this year and guess what? They're not going to see it! I'm still going to "dress up" tomorrow, but it's nothing really special. I still want to be in the "spirit" though...
I do have to say...my costume this year is pretty spectacular. I had it made (by the same lady who made my Dorothy costume two years ago and last year's Cruella de Vil coat) again and it's to the picture, literally. I tried it on Tuesday night, and am supposed to pick it up tonight. Other than a birthday/costume party that I was invited to, and the yearly Halloween event that happens every year in town, I really don't have anything planned. To be honest I would be perfectly fine passing out candy at home. We'll see.......
Friday night I'm going to see This Is It, at the latest showing possible, 11:30pm, haha. Plus Saturday morning is the Band Festival (it's a big deal, I go every year and I performed in it every year in school/jr. high/high school) PLUS my family is having a huge yard sale. PLUS whatever shenanigans happens that night. This weekend has the potential to be epic or a big headache.
